Freemasonry consists of fraternal organisations that trace their origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons, which from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients. John Kufuor
He has been given a new appointment in a Freemasons’ Lodge in the United Kingdom. The former president of Ghana was “promoted” to become a Senior Grand Warden of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) on Wednesday at a closed ceremony.
Alexander Tweneboah
The ex-President of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), ho was imprisoned over SIM Box fraud broke the hearts of members of the highly respected secret society; the Freemasons group in Ghana, which he is a member, and a top executive.
Dr. Alexander Tweneboah, who was busted by Telecom taskforce, among several SIM Box operators for causing nearly US$40 million loss to the state, was the head of the Winneba Lodge of Freemasons in the Central Region. The society came out to express their disappointment at him.
Jerry J. Rawlings
In Africa, the Craft has, as its members, such eminent sons as John Kuffuor, president of Ghana, Jerry J. Rawlings, his predecessor, Omar Hadj Bongo, president of Gabon, and Paul Biya, president of Cameroon. Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi
Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi, the Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF) is a mason. He holds a BSc. Degree in Zoology from the University of Ghana, and an MS in Zoology and Ph.D in Zoology from the University of Michigan.
Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu
The Asantehene is a member of the secret society but he is also an Anglican. Until recently, both Anglicans and Catholics were allowed to be a part of the society.
Alexander Afenyo Markin
The Member of Parliament for Efutu in the Central region Alexander Afenyo Markin confesse3d that he is a member of the fraternal society, Freemasons.
“I am a mason and I have not been sanctioned by the Catholic Church. Freemasonry is a fraternal society that believes in God Almighty and follows certain principles that guide a man’s life and it does not run counter with my believes as a catholic. President Kufuor is a mason and a catholic,” he stated.
Henry Martey Newman
John Henry Martey Newman, a Ghanaian Historian, Administrator, and Lawyer and also the Chief of Staff of Ghana under President John Atta Mills, is a mason.
Mr. Newman had his secondary school education from Mfantsipim School and proceeded to the University of Ghana where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree. Mr. Newman also obtained a certificate in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Kofi Annan
Kofi Annan, the past secretary general of the United Nations, is a prominent Freemason. Kofi Annan’ father was a high ranking tribal chief AND a high ranking freemason.
Kennedy Agyapong
Although not entirely certain, Hon. Ken Agyapong is rumoured to be a mason.
