Deadline for NSS registrants will not be extended - NSS

With few days to go until registration ends, several potential National Service Secretariat (NSS) personnel have not yet been registered.

The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has said the deadline for the registration of service personnel for the 2016/2017 year will not be extended.

This follows appeals from some prospective National Service personnel for the deadline to be extended.

The registration which started on July 18 is expected to end on August 31, 2016.

However, with few days to the end of registration several potential National Service Secretariat (NSS) personnel have not yet been registered.

Many of the graduates have attributed it to long queues at registration centres due to the limited number of personnel who were processing the forms at the NSS offices and the machines being used.

But, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Secretariat, Ambrose Entsiwah has said the NSS has given enough time for the graduates to register for the new service year.

“We expect that by this time, almost everybody would have gone through the registration process.”

“The registration is in two parts. The first part the actual registration which will determine that the person has actually reported for National Service, registering at the various registration centers and going to the user agencies where the person has been posted and getting the endorsement and coming back to the National Service Secretariat,” he told Radio Ghana.

“The second part has to do with the biometric registration for the National Service personnel ID cards which is delaying because of the slow process being adopted by the National Identification Authority.”

According to him, personnel would be allowed to report to duty at the beginning of the month but should complete the registration process by the September 15th.

Ambrose Entsiwah, however, cautioned that anyone who failed to register before the set date would have to forfeit their allowance for the month.
